Meet My Summer Intern

This post is long overdue, but I’m excited to introduce you to Caris! She lives in Washington DC, but came to spend a week with my family this summer and learn a little more about my photography business. She did a LOT of culling photos and uploading images for the blog. She assisted with a couple of photo shoots, and even tried out some of my gear taking photos of my crazy kiddos!

I asked Caris to share a little bit about her experience. Here’s what she had to say:

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I am 15 and in 10th grade. I’ve been homeschooled for 4 years now. My dad is in the military so I have moved 8 times and I am currently living in Washington D.C. In my free time I enjoy playing games with my two brothers, taking my dog for long walks, hanging out with friends, playing piano, singing, and taking pictures.

How long have you been interested in photography?

For the last 3 years or so.

What are you favorite things to photograph?

I love photographing people because everyone is different and they all have a story to tell. So for me taking their picture is like telling a part of their story. The pictures also capture them at a certain time in their life and give them something to look back on and remember about themselves or to tell others.

What are the biggest things you learned while you were here?

Probably how to use the different editing and blog programs as well as the different camera lenses.

What advice would you give to other high schoolers who are thinking about interning with someone, or being mentored by another photographer?

I would tell them that if they have the opportunity they should definitely take it! It helps a lot to get some hands on experience and see a little bit more of the day-to-day of what you would be doing if you pursued that career.

What’s one big goal you have when it comes to photography?

My short term big goal is to become very familiar with a professional camera and using different lenses and such. My long term big goal is to have my own successful photography business.

PS – These are sunrise, rainy day photos! We got outside around 6:15am and it rained/misted/sprinkled for most of our quick session, but Caris was a trooper!

Caris was such a joy to our family when she was here… not to mention a HUGE help with not only photography but also wrangling, chasing, and feeding a toddler and a baby! We are so thankful for you, Caris!
